NOTE: This is the Game Jam version of Planetone. For the new and more robust version, view on the App Store.

Planetone (Planet-tone) is a planetary music sequencer in which players grow plants to create melodies.

Plant sprouts, trees, and cacti in 7 different colors and watch your harmony grow and evolve as you plant more.

Controls

Mouse – Place sprout, cactus, or tree. Click again to remove.

Scroll Wheel / Click and Drag Background – Rotate Camera

Select a color from the sprout tab, cactus tab, or tree tab to change your instrument. Sprouts will change pitch according to their height on the planet, while cacti will play a drum beat at the same pitch. Trees will play the same note as a sprout, but will not disappear when the sun is out. This lets you perform over a persistent track.

Tempo can be adjusted by clicking the planetary orbit in the bottom left corner.

Toggle between sun and shade to prevent sprouts from growing.

Made for Ludum Dare 38 (A Small World). Sounds sampled or created using an OP-1.

This game is a delight! I adore the design and the sounds. It's simple, clever, cute and delightful. And more importantly the sprouts changing pitch means you are hooked from the get go, you aren't making something static, but a growing 'song'. and it's so much to explore and play with!

I'm glad that you found the time and energy to do a re-release of your wonderful jam entry - I found the whole aesthetics of it very pleasing, just like Noah did in his article about your game. <3 It's such a lovely toy to play around with, all the different beats and beautifully designed plants made me smile. :) That's why we also uploaded a little gameplay video, in the hope that other players may find their way to your creations. Keep up the great work!

Best wishes,
Sebastian

Hello! I adored your game, it looks gorgeous and is really simple to pick up so even a tone deaf person like me could actually make some nice music! I made a let's play of your game alongside another one here~

Amazingly cute and fun to play!
Question: I end up making some tunes I like. Would it be okay with you if I were to record and bring them into a soundprogram and "produce" music with them?

I wouldn't mind at all! Also, there's a new and much improved version coming soon (for iOS, then PC)! The sounds are different in the new version, but this applies for both. Thanks for asking!

Thank you so much :D That's amazing ^^!

Such a cute experiment! Keep up the good work!

I love this so much?? I can play this for hours, very satisfying. The plant growth really gives it a nice feeling of live performance, and helps me experiment.

Nice Job!!! Keep making games, love the concept!

Dude, mobile port? please?(and maybe a quick export thing?)

I wish I could play this anywhere! it's great!

definitely going to do this soon, hopefully with a lot more sounds and other music toys!

wow i like it how this game it will be amazing it can be awsome and playable gameplay thank you developer for creating your awsome gameplay

This was fun. Was a nice Nostalgia Trip back to playing with Flash Music mixers in Highschool. Really dig the Sci-Fi Twist. Just need to add some more plants and other Sci-Fi components to allow for more tones and sounds and I think you could run with this. Maybe even make the beats you mix sharable and people could creating something and link it to Facebook.

This was featured in the first episode of my Ludum Dare 38 showcase. So some of the footage is from a couple other games as well. As a heads up to other viewers.

Every time I click the planet to rotate it, it places a plant, which makes it kind of hard to deliberately make stuff. Very cool though!

Hi! You can click and drag the background to rotate the camera, or use the mouse scrollwheel. Clicking again also removes plants.
